An African woman of three, tired of the torment she receives from her Menfi, of a husband but tied to him because of the sole called dowry (an African price pay on a woman’s head as some tradition in Africa demands) and decided to go packing to her first domicile after the sad news of her father’s death. Divorce and frustration are the only things munching her mind in that shark of a house she lives in. After her father died, Ninah refused to return home and staid instead to run a small restaurant. When news reaches her husband that Ninah was pregnant, he came to recover the dowry he paid or take home the woman he bought
Nina’s Dowry has toured the whole world because of it unique taste it has for the African woman and the society at large. It has been to countries like USA, France, Ireland. Netherlands, Belgium, Bulgaria, Taiwan, Tanzania, Uganda, Burkina Fasso and it will play in Germany by September. The film is expected to be presented at the African Festival in New York from the 7th to 13th of May, 2014.
There were rumours, floating the places that Ninah’s Dowry was to be presented at the Oscars Awards this year. For true it was suppose to be part of it, if and only if the film was shots two years or presented two years ago. The conditions to qualify for the Oscars is more administrative as one of the crew’s said. For the film to qualify for the Oscars in 2016, it will have to fulfil certain forms, and carefully select a Cameroon Government Approved Jury before 1st of October this year so that it can qualify for 2016 edition.
That does not apply only for the documentary-film, Ninah’s Dowry. To that effect, for any Cameroonian film to be presented at OSCARS AWARDS, there must be a board of juries to select and approve the film to be presented.
